The Wedding Ceremony Is Many Couples' Main Focus, But The Wedding Rehearsal Dinner Can Be Special, Too

There are numerous arrangements, costs and anxieties that go hand in hand with arranging a wedding. If couples aren't mindful they can get so taken in with planning the wedding and endeavoring to get all the details right that there is little time to enjoy the experience. When my niece was preparing for her wedding ceremony she had three bridal showers to be at, reception plans to make and was attempting to find a place for the rehearsal dinner. The third bridal shower was given at my home. You see I'm her godmother so I had wanted to do something really special for her. Shortly before the wedding shower we talked on the telephone. She sounded very pressured. She and her fiance were also having difficulties finding the best wedding songs for the nuptials. I suggested that she come the night before the wedding shower and stay the night and we would chill out and I would help her make a list of what remained to be done prior to the wedding. She thought this sounded like a wonderful plan.

I did the vast majority of the planning for the shower prior to my niece getting there so that we could focus on her requirements. She said that the rehearsal dinner was her primary stress due to the fact that the spot they had reserved had double booked, so they needed to locate a different location. We started by working on finding the best wedding songs for the wedding day so we could get one requirement out of the way thereby giving reassurance that the other would be handled as well. As I thought finding the best wedding songs was just a matter of searching the net, listening to samples, ordering what was selected and that was that. Now to tackle the rehearsal dinner.

The wedding day rehearsal dinner is historically arranged by the groom's family; as a matter of fact some people refer to the rehearsal dinner as the groom's supper. My niece's fiance is from another state so his family is prepared to pay for the rehearsal dinner, but they are not able to help with making the plans. My niece had reached out to the restaurant where the wedding reception will be at, but the only available space was the part where the wedding reception would be happening. My niece stated that the plan was to decorate the reception area previous to going to the church for the rehearsal.

We called two neighboring restaurants to see if they could host the rehearsal dinner. Both had other happenings booked. Her fiance's mother and father are divorced, also both have married again. This meant that there were additional people that would be at the rehearsal dinner. This was also adding to her anxiety for the reason that she was trying to suss out the etiquette for seating. She had the seating chart figured out for the wedding, but not knowing the place the rehearsal dinner would be located diminished her opportunity to arrange a chart.

I asked my niece if she had contacted the church to see if the fellowship area would be open. Everyone could just mix and have a light catered meal. This would be much less formal and would be much less difficult to plan. The fellowship area was open that date. We called two delis and ordered catering. My niece called her fiance and told him the revised plans for the rehearsal dinner. He thought this sounded fantastic. He would make preparations to have a pal of his tend bar and would organize for the drinks.

The rehearsal dinner was a pleasant relaxed evening. The guests were able to socialize and mingle and the bride and groom didn't feel the need to sit in one spot while everybody ordered their food and had it served. With having a buffet line the environment was very casual and the out of town guests did not have to try to find another site in an area that they were not familiar with.
