A Young Man's Hazardous And Irresponsible Drinking Results In A DWI And Time Behind Bars Richard had an unusually difficult time keeping a job. As a matter of fact, due to his inactivity and lack of incentive, he was out of work far more often than he was employed. When he went before the court, the magistrate told Richard that his alcohol-related conduct was shameful and, as a consequence, he was going to sentence Richard to spend five months in jail. During his time in the municipal jail, Richard was expected to learn more about alcoholism facts such as alcohol consequences and alcohol deaths, about the demoralizing results of hazardous and abusive drinking, and he was expected to get alcohol counseling. The judge accentuated the fact that unless Richard gets quality alcohol counseling and learns how to live an alcohol-free life, he will quite possibly be spending more than a short amount of time placed behind bars. Richard stated that he understood what the magistrate was saying but he still stated that jail was not the most realistic verdict. The magistrate saw things from an entirely different orientation and said that it was his responsibility to keep alcohol addicted people off the streets who drive and drink and who get arrested for a DUI. To give credibility to this perspective, the magistrate outlined some honored, highly researched alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse statistics that underscored some of the disruptive effects that are linked to hazardous and abusive drinking such as alcohol related deaths. Although Richard knew that he drank irresponsibly, he never felt that he was alcohol dependent. So it was a big bombshell when Richard started to experience chronic alcoholism symptoms and signs and alcohol withdrawals roughly five hours after going to jail. To manage his symptoms of alcohol withdrawal in a safe manner, Richard was taken by ambulance to an alcohol rehab hospital for alcohol detoxification and then brought back to the local jail. While locked up in the local jail Richard received alcohol treatment but since he received this counseling as something that was imposed upon him, he was unsuccessful in taking ownership of his hazardous and excessive drinking. When his time in the city jail was over, the judge announced to Richard that he would be under careful observation and would be mandated to take periodic alcohol tests. After hearing how Richard was unsuccessful in taking ownership of his drinking situation and how he grudgingly followed the counseling regimen while in jail, the magistrate knew that it was simply a matter of time before he would be seeing Richard once again in court about his irresponsible and hazardous drinking behavior. As the judge thought about Richard's circumstance, he couldn't help but think about how some individuals never use common sense and learn how to live in an adult manner.
